WHY DAFFODILS?
The shape and color of the daffodils represent the Yellow stars that Jews were forced to wear during the Holocaust. Yellow is the color of remembrance. Daffodils represent our poignant hope for the future. They are resilient and return with a burst of color each Spring, signifying hope, renewal and beauty. The daffodils also honor those who survived the Holocaust and went on to build new lives after this dark and difficult period.

PLANT DAFFODILS IN MEMORY OF OR IN CELEBRATION OF SOMEONE SPECIAL:

We will be planting daffodils in memory of loved ones, in honor of survivors, in celebration of special life events including births, birthdays, graduations, weddings or other meaningful milestones. If you are celebrating a Bar or Bat Mitzvah, you can participate in the Am Yisrael Chai! Bar or Bat Mitzvah Daffodil project. You can twin your Bar or Bat Mitzvah with a child who died in the Holocaust and was never able to celebrate this important milestone. We will provide you with the name and background information and resources to learn more about the Holocaust in a personal way. You can plant daffodils in honor of your Bar/Bat Mitzvah and in memory of your “twin” who will always be remembered through this meaningful project.

How can anyone who remembers remain silent
- Elie Wiesel

WHO WE ARE:

Am Yisrael Chai! is a non profit Holocaust Education and Awareness Organization. Each year we host a community event in Atlanta, Georgia to commemorate the Holocaust and to celebrate survival and success. Am Yisrael Chai! has developed The Daffodil Project, a world-wide project empowering Holocaust Education.

During the Holocaust, one and a half million children died senselessly in Nazi occupied Europe. No-one knows what kind of lives these children would have gone on to lead. Their potential for growth and fulfillment was cut short. We aspire to build a Living Holocaust Memorial by planting 1.5 million daffodils around the world to remember the children.

LEARN LESSONS FROM THE PAST AND ACT FOR THE FUTURE:

In keeping with the spirit of Am Yisrael Chai and bringing the message of the Holocaust to today’s world, funds raised from this project support Holocaust Education and also support children suffering in humanitarian crises in the world today.  Senseless killing, violence, disease and malnutrition are leaving a mark on this generation of children. We cannot stand by in silence.

Elie Wiesel, Holocaust Survivor and famous author of the book “Night” states –

How can a person, whether religious or secular, not be moved by compassion? And above all, how can anyone who remembers remain silent?”

We are empowering Holocaust Education by remembering and reflecting and applying the message of the Holocaust to the world today. Current projects we support include “Kids for Kids”, “Raising South Sudan”, and “Agahozo Shalom Youth Village”.

WORLDWIDE DAFFODIL MEMORIAL:

We planted 1,800 bulbs in 2010,

over 10,000 bulbs in 2011,

14,250 in 2012,

51,508 in 2013,

110,000 in 2014,

76,000 in 2015

We have set a goal to plant at least 75,000 daffodils in 2016.

We will continue planting until we have planted 1.5 million daffodils and beyond.

Help us plant 1.5 million daffodils around the world in memory of the 1.5 million children who perished in the Holocaust and in support for children suffering in humanitarian crises in the world today.
